UC1 · Step 3 of 5 — Live validation responds
Maria Rivera · Staffing Clerk · Dept 3630 / Line 5 · Tuesday, 06:01
As soon as Maria adds the two new team members, the Live Validation panel on the right updates. She didn't ask for it — the app checked her work the moment she changed it.
What the validation panel is telling her
Look at the right rail:
- 🟢 PASS · Within punched time. Nobody on the team has an activity that runs outside their punched-in window. The first hard rule is satisfied.
- 🟢 PASS · No activity overlap. Nobody on the team is double-booked on a conflicting activity. The second hard rule is satisfied.
- 🟡 WARNING · Coverage gap (0:15). T. Brown clocked in at 10:30 but his activity starts at 10:45. There's 15 minutes of punched-in time that isn't accounted for by any activity. Save is still permitted — this is a warning, not a hard failure. The warning is recorded for the timekeeper to review later.
- 🔵 INFO · Standard staffing. Standard requires 4 employees on this order; Maria has 4 keyed now (originally 2, plus the two she just added). She's met standard. The supervisor's dashboard will reflect this in real time.
- 🔴 PILOT NOTICE · Duplicate old/new. During pilot, the legacy staffing sheet for SO-447121 already has an overlapping activity for E-10488 (T. Brown). The legacy entry wins; if Maria tries to save an overlapping activity on the new app, it will be rejected.
The three rule outcomes, in plain English
| Outcome | What happens to Maria | What the timekeeper sees |
|---|---|---|
| Hard fail (over-punch, overlap) | Save is blocked. Maria has to fix it before continuing. | No new error to chase — Maria fixed it. |
| Warning (coverage gap) | Save is allowed. Maria can move on. | The warning lands in the Activity Errors queue for review. |
| Pilot duplicate | New-app entry is rejected. Legacy SOP wins. | No conflict — legacy is the source of truth during pilot. |
Why it matters
Today, Maria submits the staffing sheet and finds out about mismatches the next day — by which time the punch is gone, the shift is over, and reconstruction is a guessing game. With live validation, the decision and the check happen at the same desk, in the same minute. The number of end-of-week corrections drops sharply because the easy problems never make it into the data.
